Limbo is an artist-led organisation based at the former electrical substation off Margate's High Street. Limbo was set-up to create a resource supporting cultural development and experimentation inThanet and beyond; providing affordable artist studios a gallery/project space and a programme of exhibitions, artist residencies, events and off-site projects.
Vortigern Margate is a new photographic gallery and rare bookshop based in the Old Town of Margate in Kent, England. We represent a wide range of photographic artists at all stages of their careers,from exciting recent young graduates to those with an amazing archive of work built up over many years. We also stock a carefully curated selection of mostly first edition rare and out of print photo-books and vintage magazines from the 1950's to the present day.
Lovelys gallery and art shop was established in 1891 by Mr Edward Lovely (pictured below). It is still owned and run by the Lovely Family. Edward Lovely opened the first shop in Margate High Street.He was one of the first to import lengths of picture moulding from Gemany, a revolutionary step at the time. In 1912 a further shop was purchased next door to expand into selling art materials. In 1925 a further shop opened in Ramsgate.
Owned by curator and director Kate Smith, UpDown Gallery hosts exhibitions featuring the best of modern and contemporary British, European and American art. Past shows have featured works by artistsincluding Bridget Riley, Sir Peter Blake, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Sir Howard Hodgkin and Piers Secunda.
