About the Business
I was chasing the light with this study of the Garh Palace in beautiful downtown Bundi, so elected to go for line & wash for speed. My son Ben, who had been attacked by a macaque earlier in the day, stood guard with a stick (commonly available), while I painted. I left the monkeys out.
It began with a family trip to India in January/February; the most diverse, colourful, chaotic, friendly place I have ever visited. India is a country which somehow manages to be complicated and simple at the same time; in fact it's full of contradictions, amazing. I sketched, wrote and painted as we went; in diary, sketch book, watercolour pad and on a bonded watercolour block, which I find really useful because it cuts down on equipment. Some of my jottings are shown here, and several more were painted when we returned.
