Situated on the site of Blacksmiths Cottage Nursery and Shorelands Wildlife Gardens, in rural South Norfolk 5 miles East of Diss, Waveney Gallery is a multi-purpose building encompassing Art Gallery,Coffee Shop, Gift Shop and Conference facilities. The gallery shows an eclectic and idiosyncratic range of art - largely reflecting director Ron Howell's enthusiasms and friendships. Paintings and prints by modern British artists such as Terry Frost,Geoffrey Clarke, Margaret Thomas and Sandra Blow are shown alongside those by younger artists such as Tessa Newcomb and Jo Gorner, as well as pieces by established makers such as jeweller Wendy Ramshaw and sculptor Guy Taplin.

AHA courses are much better than A level History of Art as a preparation for university work. Exposure to real paintings, sculpture and buildings develops visual alertness. Seeing art in the citieswhere it was made reveals how it was shaped by its cultural context. Students from AHA have been made aware of many of the problems and excitements of academic Art History before they begin their BA.

I am a contemporary visual artist who paints the modern British seaside. Having lived in Great Yarmouth for the past 19 years, I have long been surrounded by all the colourful sights of thetraditional seaside holiday - things like buckets and spades, ice creams, hot dogs, fish and chip shops, fun fairs and amusement arcades - and I try to capture them in a way that is modern and realistic, while at the same time acknowledging the inherent nostalgia they evoke.
